Smart Agriculture & Food System

Program Overview

Food Tank works directly with smallholder farmers' communities, 40% being women and 40% are youth, through practical training, demonstration farms, farmer groups, appropriate agricultural technologies and inputs, and digital advisory services. The program engages community leaders, agricultural extension officers, researchers, agribusinesses, and technology and innovation partners to promote sustainable soil and water management, crop diversification, improved seeds, climate-resilient farming, value addition, and market linkages. This increases farm productivity, household food security, and farmer incomes, reduces vulnerability to climate change, creates economic opportunities for women and youth, and strengthens sustainable, locally led food systems in rural Tanzania.

Key Activities

• <p>Climate-Smart Farm Demonstrations – We establish and support demonstration farms that showcase practical, climate-resilient farming practices for local farmers. Farmer Training &amp; Capacity Building – We train smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth, on sustainable farming, soil and water management, crop diversification, and improved production techniques. Agricultural Technology &amp; Innovation – We promote accessible technologies and digital solutions, including Kilimo Kiganjani, Smart Ardh, and other innovations, to improve farmers’ access to knowledge and climate-smart solutions.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;Agribusiness Incubation: Build entrepreneurship, agribusiness, financial literacy, and digital business skills for women and youth</p><p>Food Security &amp; Nutrition Promotion – We support diversified food production, improved household nutrition, and sustainable food systems to strengthen food security.</p><p>&nbsp;Agribusiness &amp; Market Linkages – We support farmers to improve value addition, connect with markets, and develop sustainable income-generating opportunities from agriculture.</p>
