Program Overview

FOODTANK’s WASH and Nutrition Program empowers communities through integrated interventions that improve access to safe water, sanitation, hygiene practices, and nutrition services. The program uses community awareness, behavior change campaigns, capacity building, and partnerships to promote sustainable WASH solutions and prevent waterborne diseases. The program promotes clean water, improved sanitation facilities, menstrual hygiene management, nutrition education, mental health awareness, and healthy lifestyles in communities and schools.

Primary Beneficiaries:
Women, children, adolescents, schools, rural households, and vulnerable community members.

Why It Matters:
Healthy communities are more productive and resilient. Access to WASH services, adequate nutrition, and mental health support improve education, livelihoods, dignity, and overall quality of life.

Program Objectives

<p>To improve community health and nutrition outcomes by increasing access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services while promoting healthy behaviors and nutrition practices among vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, and adolescent girls.&nbsp;</p><p>The program strengthens community capacity to prevent diseases, reduce malnutrition, and build healthier, more resilient communities.</p>

Key Activities

  • <ul><li>Rehabilitation and construction of boreholes, water points, and sustainable water supply systems in schools, villages, and farming communities.</li><li>Construction and improvement of gender-sensitive sanitation facilities, including school toilets and safe hygiene spaces.</li><li>Establishment of sanitary pad exchange rooms and menstrual hygiene management support for adolescent girls.</li><li>Installation of solar-powered water systems in schools, villages, and farms to improve reliable access to clean water.</li><li>Nutrition education, cooking demonstrations, mothers’ groups, and nutrition clubs to promote healthy diets and child nutrition.</li><li>WASH in Schools programs promoting hygiene practices, safe water use, and improved sanitation.</li><li>Clean cooking energy awareness campaigns to reduce health risks and promote environmentally friendly household practices.</li></ul>
